PRIMARY PURPOSE: The North Texas Food Bank Social Service Assistance Program (SSA) assists clients with applying for state public benefit programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, TANF and others. The SSA Call Center Coordinator will answer calls to the NTFB SNAP Office and assist clients with inquiries, questions, and benefits application. The Social Services Assistance Coordinator will provide application assistance to clients for state public benefit programs primarily in the SSA office.

Principal duties and responsibilities: 

  • Assists SSA clients who call the SNAP Hotline with application assistance for public state benefit programs in the office, procesesses expedite worksheets and assigns a file date to case including making sure that filing deadlines are met.
  • Formally interviews SSA clients for SNAP eligibility on the phone or office, processes expedite worksheets, and assigns a file date to case including making sure that filing deadlines are met.
  • For clients calling the SNAP Hotline or appearing at the SSA Office, increase awareness to local community through education regarding SSA Program and Program Requirements.
  • For clients calling to request SNAP applications, coordinator will mail applications to clients by close of business (same day) and document for tracking and follow up purposes.
  • Processes paperwork received via mail in the SSA office, including follow up calls to conduct over the phone or in-office interviews and submit documentation according to HHSC guidelines as well as pending documents (as needed)
  • Process applications mailed into the office from outreach event distribution, including interview and document submission with client consent.
  • Attend outreach events as needed, distributing applications and assisting clients with application assistance as appropriate.
  • During WIC Voucher distribution, follow up with recipients via phone to determine voucher redemption and track results.
  • Assist with administrative office duties as needed, such as processing/submission of pending documents to the State and assembling interview/application packets.
  • Assist in corresponding with potential community partners for participation in Community Partner Program (CPP) and document efforts for tracking purposes.
  • Implements and maintains direct service goals regarding metrics such as applications processed, number of contacts, types of services provided, outreach efforts.   Overall productivity will be reviewed on a quarterly basis and numbers/functions may be altered to meet program need and goals.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education/Certification:                  

BA in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or Marketing preferred OR 2+ years in related work experience

required knowledge:       

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish required.
  • 1-5 years of experience providing case work or case management services.
  • Call center experience a plus.
  • Experience determining eligibility for city, county, or state benefits programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws and compliance.
  • Experience in a social service agency preferred.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook a must.
  • Must understand and follow directions and complete complex state benefits applications.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions such as add and multiply.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Must possess a drive for consistent productivity as well as desire to assist people in need
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs minimally.
